SHIRLEY CALPESTRI-CRAIG (1915-2002) Alameda, CA Shirley attended Alameda High School, later studying art at California College of Arts and Crafts and College of Alameda as a student of artists Vincent Perez, Harry Krell, Lundy Siegriest and Jade Fon. 

Signing her paintings as Shirley Calpestri, she was known as a prominent Bay Area woman artist. She was a member of the San Francisco Women Artists Guild and founding member of "The Pad", an art studio in Oakland, which provided space and collegial support to many local artists. Local organizations hosting one-woman shows of her work included the Lucien Labaudt Gallery, San Francisco; the American Institute of Architects, Oakland; the Phillip/Allen Gallery, San Francisco and St. Mary's College Art Gallery, Moraga hosted shows of her works. She received recognition from such organizations as the Oakland Art Association, the Jack London Invitational, Alameda County Fair, and the Alameda Spring Festival. Her paintings have been added to the collections at the Alameda First National Bank, the Alameda County Commission Administration and numerous private collections throughout the country. 

The landscapes and still lifes of Shirley Calpestri are known for their imaginative expression of beauty of the forces of nature.
