Gandhi's Possessions at Time of Death
1948
Black and white matte photograph, a photograph of original photograph
15 1/4"x19 1/4" unframed

Good Condition - Wear consistent with age and history. Yellowing on top, paper shows wear, glue remnants on reverse.

It shows two pairs of sandals (one dark, one light), two bowls (one black, one white), a book (white), eyeglasses (black) and a few other objects laid out symmetrically on canvas-covered steps, possibly the base of the platform where the great Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi sat.

These were his last possessions. Someone - no one knows who - had the presence of mind to record them shortly after Gandhi was assassinated in 1948.
