Keith Haring was an influential New York based Pop Artist who gained recognition for his street art and unique style. He devoted much of his time to public works, many of which carried social messages. He achieved international recognition and participated in over 100 group and solo exhibitions.

Haring was able to attract a wide audience by expressing universal concepts such as love, birth, death, sex, and war. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, which supports not-for-profit organizations dedicated to assisting children "as well as organizations involved in education, research and care related to AIDS." Haring died at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990
