Aaron Lim is a self-taught San Francisco-based artist who developed a love of art visiting museums with his father, James Lim. There, he was drawn to abstract expressionism and in particular the work of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. He started painting in high school working both independently and collaborating with friends on large-scale canvases. His early paintings reflect a love of cartoons and drawing, often using oil sticks and chalk to draw lines overlayed onto flat planes of color. During high school, he was influenced by the painter Jean Michel Basquiat whose hieroglyphic paintings express a raw power and energy and began to incorporate symbols and text into his work. Aaron continues to paint in his spare time.
